Religious Education
Intent
In Religious Education, we intend to provide children with a well-rounded view of the different world religions. By following the locally approved ‘SACRE’ RE guidance and teach our children about all major world religions, belief systems and celebrations. We use the Living Difference III approach which all concepts are brought to life for the children. This means that RE is brought to life with real and concrete situations, and encounters and makes room for what they encounter
RE is taught around the cycle of enquiry. We aim to guide them in their understanding of the key elements within each religion, how these are celebrated and to promote tolerance and understanding towards all religious beliefs. In doing so, we promote self-reflection and aim for all children to understand how their own beliefs and ideas are both similar and different to others around them. We encourage questioning both of their own ideas and of the world around them. Every student should leave Barlby Primary School with a deeper understanding of their own opinions/beliefs and tolerance and respect for the opinions/beliefs of others.
Withdrawal
At Barlby, we encourage visits to places of worship and discussions with community members to enhance our understanding. Parents can withdraw their child from RE lessons by contacting us. While we aim for all students to experience the full curriculum, those wishing to withdraw from all or part of RE should consult with a member of the leadership team.
